Ethan, from the archives

February 5, 2010

I really miss taking pics of this little guy. Of course, there are camera phone shots, but I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to capture anything like this on an iPhone. This was taken back in December, before he got his hair trimmed and started looking like a proper little boy.

Ethan & Oranges

December 16, 2009

Isn’t this boy a happy camper? He had been off oranges for a couple of weeks due to an upset tummy, and this is him getting stuck back in. Love the big happy mess he makes.

Early morning Ethan

December 2, 2009

I woke up to the pat, pat, pat of two toddler hands on my head. Ethan was up, and had decided it was high time I awoke too. There was really pretty morning light streaming through the window, so I grabbed my camera (I swear, I don’t sleep with it… it just happened to be handy. Promise.) and snapped these two quick shots.

Oh, to be disciplined enough to get up this early every morning, just to get that gorgeous light.

Feeding time at the zoo

November 3, 2009

Looking like butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth – at least not when it’s so busy being spread all over his face!

As messy as it is, feeding Ethan is great craic. When I get shots like these, I feel really grateful for my camera, and for photography. I just love his expressions in them.

Poor little devil

November 2, 2009

Ethan was not entirely feeling his Halowe’en costume this year, poor pet.

Firstly, the red nose we painted on (Christian Dior Rouge in Celebrity red, in case you’re wondering…) confused him a bit – here’s a shot of him getting a look at it in the mirror:

He did brighten up once he ws given some mischevious brows (Rimmel Glam’eyes eyeliner in black):

But he kept pulling his hood off, so we tried him with a devil horn hairband, which didn’t stay put long.

I guess he reckoned it was a tad too girly for him. Lipstick and eyeliner was as far as he would go in one night, thank you very much. Can’t blame him really.

Gone fishin’

October 2, 2009

Not fishing exactly – snorkeling maybe!

As of today, I’m off on hols to Singapore and Bali with Eoghan for a week or so of snapping, and reading, and lounging, and eating and snapping and, em, did I mention snapping? Can’t wait to take a zillion photos, expect to see some of them here on my return.

In the meantime, here are some Ethan shenanigans, ‘cos it’s been a while.

In the past few weeks we have learned that…

a) he LOVES strawberries

b) he can answer some important questions, mainly “Where is your nose?”

c) He’s figuring out how to work the remote control… and trying to work out how to switch his snap happy aunt off too by the looks of it!

And finally,

d) He is still a total cutie

(Sorry, I’m his Godmother AND Aunt (he’s my first nephew)… it’s practically obligatory that I totally dote on him!)

See you soon!

Ah, how they grow

September 15, 2009

It’s kind of scaring me how quickly Ethan is growing and changing. He’s just over 14 months old now, and  in the past week alone he’s gotten up to all sorts of shenanigans, including:

  • Falling in love with the dog’s bed. Kelly bought a big basket in Ikea to put the dog’s blanket in to. The dog, Dudi, didn’t fancy it much (he’s more of a couch hogger really) but Ethan loved it. So much so that Kelly had to replace the dog blanket with an Ethan blanket. He even crawled in for a nap!
  • Kind of getting to grips with feeding himself with his spoon. Or propelling his lunch across the table, whichever seems like most fun at the time.
  • Picking up clothes that are lying around, putting them into the washing machine and trying to press the buttons.
  • Expanding his vocabulary: “over there” is a favourite.
  • At random, he’ll put his head on my shoulder and give me a hug.

Basically, he’s just the cutest thing ever.

Room with a view

July 21, 2009

Now that Ethan has got a bit more independence, he is free to crawl pretty much wherever he likes. He keeps coming back to this window though, which is funny, because it’s my favourite too.

Look to your far left, and you see Croke Park, Hogan Stand-side. If you’re lucky, there might be the tinny hum of a sound check, the buzz of a concert or the roar of a match. In the distance, there is Howth bay, smack in the middle are the Poolbeg towers (get on the DART for a great view of them), then lots and lots of cranes, around the Spencer Dock area.

But I think Ethan’s interests lie closer – the cars, the people, the pets, and the general comings and goings of the street below fascinate him. Who needs electronic light-y uppy musical cubes when you have the city to entertain you?
